All About Our Shibas

"My name is Diana Smiley and I live in Santa Rosa, California, with my husband Tom. I started raising and showing Rottweilers in 1974. I then added Akitas in 1984. I was an obedience instructor for about 15 years, all breeds. In 1995 I decided I would like to have a smaller breed. I started looking at the Shibas showing at the dog shows and I liked what I saw. I bought one and showed her to her championship. I then got a second and a third. I have finished fourty seven Shibas (all owner handled) to date and have some beautiful champions to continue breeding for my breeding program and my next new champions. I have all three colors but my favorite is the brilliant clear reds. I have imported twelve Shibas from Japan with all different bloodlines. My hope is to breed them to look like the Nippo dogs in Japan. The Shiba is a sturdy little dog and should be investigated thoroughly to see if this is the dog that you want to share your life with. It needs socialization when it is young so it can be an all around family pet even if you will not be showing it. My puppies are raised in the house and socialized every day. The parents have all their health checks and I am available to answer questions long after you get your Shiba home so you will always have a support system. The pups are sold with a health guarantee. I sell companion dogs and show prospects. Sometimes a young adult will be available. The puppies will have their first shots before going to their new homes. They will have their health record to take to your new vet. I belong to the National Shiba Club of America and to an all breed club, [Sir Francis Drake]. I have served as secretary and as president to our local Shiba Club, [Shiba Inu Fanciers of Northern California], aka "SFNC". I am also an AKC judge for the breeds of French Bulldogs, Schipperkes, Chinese Shar Pei, Keeshonds, Rottweiler, Bulldog, Akita and the Shiba Inu."
